Nyout

Nyout is an ancient horse racing game that originated in Korea upon which a number of modern board games have been based. Each player has 4 pieces (horses) that have to race around the board in order to get home first. Instead of throwing dice the players roll sticks. In the original version players work in teams of two in order to get their horses the first to arrive home.
The set is designed and handcrafted in cedar wood by an artist, and craftsman, in the United States. Because each set is lovingly handmade no two sets are identical and colors and shades may vary.
This is an exciting and fun game for anyone to play and makes a great and most unusual gift. The board is sturdy and beautiful and will become a family heirloom for generations yet to come.

Byzantine Chess

Byzantine Chess is an ancient version of chess that was played on a round board long before our modern form of chess (known as Mad Queen Chess) was accepted. For more than a thousand years circular boards and square boards competed with each other for supremacy. In medieval times the Queen was a glorified King who could only move two spaces in each direction. Not terribly effective or exciting on a square board but think about the possibilities on a round one! Byzantine Chess is tremendous fun and excitement for any two players. Can you imagine a castle putting a King in check from two different directions at the same time! A one front battle will no longer be possible. You opponent can attack from either side so you must protect your rear as well.
This is a fabulous set for any chess collector, chess player or collector of medieval memorabilia.

This set was designed by the artist and craftsman, Scott Alessio in the USA. This set is unique. The black and white board is laminated. Directions for playing the game are on the reverse side of the board.

Tawlbrydd

This game is the Welsh version of Hneftafl. The board is handcrafted in the USA of cedar wood. Because the boards are handmade no two are identical and colors and shades may vary.

The game of Tabut was discovered in Sweden in 1732 and is believed to be the Old Norse board game called Hnefatafk that was mentioned in the Icelandic sagas. . The word hnefatafl is a compound of Hnefi (meaning fist) and Tafl (ultimately from tabula and meaning board). This game was popular in the Viking homelands in Scandinavia as early as 400 AD and was carried by the Vikings to the lands they conquered. Over the centuries the game developed and different versions of the board have been found by archaeologists in sites from Ireland to the Ukraine. Occasionally referred to in manuscripts the game was known as Hnefatafl which means literally "king's table". Its decline began in the 11th century as chess grew in popularity. It soon lingered on only in remote country districts.
