Senet Ancient Board Game (Wood)

Senet Ancient Board Game (Wood)

The Ancient Board Game of Senet, one of the world's oldest board games was played in Egypt during Predynastic and First Dynasties and was found in tombs circa 3500BC and 3100 BC. Original games were made of clay or stone but modern sets are usually wood. Senet is similiar to Backgammon as it is a two-player strategy game. Five pawns are allocated to each player who then throws 4 sticks to determine the movement of the pawns around the board. Each stick is white on one side and black on the other and a throw can produce a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 depending on how the sticks land. The winner is the player who can remove all his pawns from the board first.
This Senet set is all wood.

	Set contains:
Wood Senet Board with storage drawer
       Board size -- 16.25 inches x 5 inches x 2 inches
Wood playing pieces - 5 black and 5 while
	1 die
	4 sticks
	Instructions

Byzantine Chess

Byzantine Chess is an ancient version of chess that was played on a round board long before our modern form of chess (known as Mad Queen Chess) was accepted. For more than a thousand years circular boards and square boards competed with each other for supremacy. In medieval times the Queen was a glorified King who could only move two spaces in each direction. Not terribly effective or exciting on a square board but think about the possibilities on a round one! Byzantine Chess is tremendous fun and excitement for any two players. Can you imagine a castle putting a King in check from two different directions at the same time! A one front battle will no longer be possible. You opponent can attack from either side so you must protect your rear as well.
This is a fabulous set for any chess collector, chess player or collector of medieval memorabilia.

This set was designed by the artist and craftsman, Scott Alessio in the USA. This set is unique. The black and white board is laminated. Directions for playing the game are on the reverse side of the board.

Tawlbrydd Handmade Board Game

Tawlbrydd Handmade Board Game
Welsh Hneftafl

Tawlbrydd is the Welsh version of Hneftafl. The board is handcrafted in the USA of cedar wood. Because the boards are handmade no two are identical and colors and shades may vary.

The game of Tabut was discovered in Sweden in 1732 and is believed to be the Old Norse board game called Hnefatafk that was mentioned in the Icelandic sagas. . The word hnefatafl is a compound of Hnefi (meaning fist) and Tafl (ultimately from tabula and meaning board). This game was popular in the Viking homelands in Scandinavia as early as 400 AD and was carried by the Vikings to the lands they conquered.

Over the centuries the game developed and different versions of the board have been found by archaeologists in sites from Ireland to the Ukraine. Occasionally referred to in manuscripts the game was known as Hnefatafl which means literally "king's table". Its decline began in the 11th century as chess grew in popularity. It soon lingered on only in remote country districts.

Handmade Chaturanga Chess Set

Handmade Chaturanga Chess Set

Chaturanga Chess, also known as the Chess of the Two Kingdoms, is loads of fun for four players in two teams. There are no Queens in this game, only Kings. The games object is to capture both of your opponents Kings. If your King is captured, dont worry. Your teammate moves your pieces for you. But no need to give up yetif he captures one of your opponents Kings there is a hostage swap, and both Kings are placed back on the board, and you are once again in the game! But now you must be extra careful and display extreme cunningif you are captured a second time you can no longer get back in the game. You are out for the rest of this game.
This is a wonderful game for anyone who loves chess or board games. It makes a fabulous and most unusual gift for any collector or history buff.

The set is designed and handcrafted in cedar wood by an artist, and craftsman, in the United States.
